I am writing to you on behalf of the Irish Free Software Organisation,
since we understand that you will have the opportunity to participate
in the vote in JURI this afternoon where the directive on Software
Patentability will be voted on.

We believe that Rocard's proposed amendments represent the fairest
compromise, and we urge you to support them in the vote today.

We believe these amendments will exclude pure software from
patentability while still permitting computer-aided inventions to be
patented; this is what most member states have said they want.
